What I Read in June—Part 2

What I Read in June—Part 2
Yesterday I reviewed four books that I read in June.  Today I will review the remaining five books.  These books are such a pleasure to review.  They are all different, but were so enjoyable in their own way.

I first heard about Furious Hours—Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee when it was featured with author Casey Cep on CBS Sunday Morning.  The segment talked of the painstaking way Casey Cep organized the boxes and boxes of Harper Lee’s flies into this compelling book.  The books is divided into three parts.  The first part focuses on the unbelievable true crime story of Reverend Willie Maxwell.  The second part of the book focuses on lawyer, Tom Radney.  Harper Lee was present at the trial, taking copious notes, to write a book.  However, Harper Lee never wrote the book.  (I’m purposely being vague because I don’t want to spoil the trial story.). The third part of the book focuses on Harper Lee,  her friendship with Truman Capote, and her struggle with writing.  This is an amazing book.  I’m in awe of how Casey Cep organized and wrote this book.

Daisy and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favorite books I’ve read all year.  I love everything about this book.  It reads like a documentary of a famous 70’s rock band.  As the members are interviewed, the characters come alive and their story is told.  There is a twist in the story, too!  I can only hope that a movie is made of this book so we can hear the songs Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote. Until then I will listen to Spotify playlists of Daisy and the Six and a lot of Stevie Nicks!

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner is the story of two sisters who grew up in 1950’s Detroit.  Jo is the tomboy and Bethie is the beauty.  I came away feeling that Mrs. Everything is about every woman and the changes and challenges we face as we journey through life.

I really enjoyed Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews.  The book is set in Sunset Beach which is on the southern tip of Treasure Island, Florida.  I have vacationed near there for several years, so the book resonated with me.  The main character in the story, Drue Campbell is likeable and well-developed.  She inherits a home on Sunset Beach and a mystery unfolds.  This book is well-paced and kept my attention.  It is a perfect beach read!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is such an enjoyable book.  The main character in the book is Olive.  She has a twin sister, Ami, and the girls are total opposites.  Without spoiling the book, it contains romance and at times it is just laugh out loud hilarious!  It is such a fun read, especially if you happen to be going to Maui.

I told you that June was a great month of reading!  I’m on my way to make my July reading just as great!

All of My June Reads!
