Book Review—A Redbird Christmas by Fannie Flagg

One of the readers I follow on Goodreads read and reviewed this book.  I just had to read Fannie Flagg’s A Redbird Christmas after reading her review.  I loved this story.  It is everything a holiday story should be—sweet and uplifting!  I actually listened to it in audiobook form.  Fannie Flagg read the book, and I think this is the best way to enjoy this story.

The book begins with the main character, Oswald T. Campbell, receiving a poor health report from his doctor.  Campbell lives in Chicago, and his doctor suggests moving to a warmer climate.  Campbell ends up moving to Lost River, Arkansas.  In this small town, Campbell rebuilds his life.  He meets Roy, the shopkeeper, and Frances Cleverdon, the heart of Lost River.  Roy nurses a redbird back to health, and the whole town falls in love with Jack.  Frances takes in an abandoned girl, Patsy, who forms a special relationship with Jack.  This story has many touching moments and especially portrays the small town goodness of people.  The story culminates with a special Christmas in Lost River.

A Redbird Christmas is a great book for all ages.
