Book Review—The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile

I first heard about the concept of Enneagrams from a friend of mine.  She encouraged me, along with some of my other close friends, to listen to some podcasts about the subject.  I did listen to the podcasts, which were on Annie F. Downs’s podcast, That Sounds Fun.  The podcasts called EnneaSummer2019, began on May 27, 2019 and ran through June 27th.  Each podcast ran a little over an hour.  The first podcast’s guest was Suzanne Stabile, one of the authors of the book I’m reviewing today.  So when I read The Road Back to You, I did have a lot of background knowledge on the Enneagram concept.

The Enneagram is an ancient way of personality typing.  In this model there are nine basic personality types or numbers.  As you read the book, you can try to identify your number.  Be careful, because as you continue to read the book, your first thoughts may change.  The authors say to focus on what your personality was like as a young person around 19-years-old as you read.  That was difficult for me, but I did understand their point of getting back to who you were before “life” got in the way.  What is unique about this approach is that it also delves into the unhealthy aspect of each personality type and ideas to help you transform those issues.  The Enneagram helps with communication between partners, friends, and co-workers once you realize your numbers.  Again, be careful not to jump to conclusions about what number your friends are, etc.  No number is “better” than any other; in fact most people have some characteristics of all of the numbers.

I enjoyed this book and learning more about myself, how to be more compassionate with others, and more about the person God wants me to become.

Because the authors are experts on this subject, I gave the book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars.
