Book Review—This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens

I was excited to read This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens because it has a New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day theme which is perfect for January reading. The book was written pre-pandemic and was published on August 1, 2020. The book follows the lives of Minnie Cooper (yes, that is her name which is significant to the story) and Quinn Hamilton, who know of each other, but have never met. Minnie was born on New Year’s Day and her birthday has always been an unlucky day, right from the start. She is an excellent baker and has a business baking pies for elderly shut-ins. Minnie’s and Quinn’s lives have intersected many times throughout the years without them knowing. They finally meet on New Year’s Day 2020.

This romance novel is slow-building and also about self-discovery. The subplots with Minnie’s mother are quite hysterical. This is a perfect book to read right now. It is uplifting and gives you that feeling that anything is possible. It is a perfect time to ask yourself: Where will I be This Time Next Year?
