Book Review—Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey

Alright, Alright, Alright...I read Greenlights, Matthew McConaughey’s memoir a few weeks ago. I loved this book. I actually bought the audiobook version, and it is read by none other than Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey himself. I love his voice; his distinctive Texan brawl. I had to turn the speed down a tad to catch every word, but that was fine. My sister read the hardback version of the book, which I am now going to purchase. The hardback book is full of pictures, his “bumperstickers” (yes, McConaughey’s “bumpersticker” is one word—read the book to find out why), and his “greenlights”. The book is full of tales from his youth, his trip to Australia after high school graduation (unreal), and his takeaways on every subject imaginable.

Why does Matthew remember all of these details from his life? It is because he journaled! That’s right. Matthew McConaughey has kept journals his entire life. What I liked about the book is how insightful he is about things that have happened in his life and what he has learned from all of his varied experiences. Matthew McConaughey is brilliant, quirky, fun, and a devoted husband and dad. All of this shines through in his memoir.

I highly recommend you get a copy of Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey hey hey hey. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!)
