Book Review—Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan

Manhattan Beach is a historical fiction novel written by  Pulitzer-Prize winning author, Jennifer Eagan. Written in 2017, it won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. Manhattan Beach is set during the Great Depression era and continues through World War II. The novel begins with young Anna Kerrigan accompanying her father, Eddie, on his business rounds for a gangster, Dexter Styles, in order to support his family. This sets the tone for the novel that is part family drama, mystery, and war story. Jennifer Eagan’s writing is masterful. I highly recommend Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Eagan.
