Book Review—The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon

“But maybe that’s what we all are—halfway-broken people searching for things that will smooth our jagged edges.”

The Ex Talk is the debut adult novel by author, Rachel Lynn Solomon. She is also the author of the popular young adult novel, Today Tonight Tomorrow and has a new book, We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This coming out on June 8th of this year.

The Ex Talk was written with a public radio station as its backdrop. Producer Shay Goldstein loves her job, but is a little wary of her new colleague, Dominic Yun. Shay has been producing for nearly a decade at the station, while Dominic is coming to the station with a master’s in journalism. When Shay pitches a new show to her boss, he concocts a scheme that also includes Dominic. Thus begins this adorable romantic comedy complete with cute back-and-forth banter between the two.

I purchased this book through Once Upon a Book Club. Every month you receive either a hardback or paperback book, along with a quote print, and 3-5 gifts to open as you read. The gifts make for a fun and motivating way to read! Also included are book club discussion questions which are great if you are involved in a book club. They have adult and young adult boxes to choose from and special holiday-themed boxes available during the year. The Ex Talk was in the Spring, 2021 Steamy Romance Limited Edition box.

I highly recommend The Ex Talk. I loved the podcast concept of the show along with Shay’s touching memories of her father, and of course, Dominic!
