Book Review—Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia

Of Women and Salt is Gabriela Garcia’s debut novel. It was Good Morning America’s Book Club selection in April, 2021.

This is a story of immigration told by strong mothers and daughters over generations. The 1800’s Cuban cigar industry is the focus of María Isabel’s story. In present day Miami, we are told Jeanette’s story of addiction. Gloria tells her story of living in a Texas detention center in 2014. All of the stories are intertwined, which makes the book even more powerful.

I listened to the audio version of the book, but I would advise reading the book in print form. I did have to rewind sometimes to see how the stories were fitting together. It would have been much easier to do that with a print version.

I highly recommend Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia.
