Book Review—Falling by T. J. Newman

Falling by T. J. Newman is one of this summer’s biggest novels. In July, the former flight attendant’s debut novel hit #2 on the New York Times Bestseller List in its first week! Having a background in acting and as a flight attendant served the author well in writing Falling. In fact in one interview she stated that the idea came to her on a flight, and she actually wrote ideas down on a cocktail napkin.

The book begins with the pilot finding out 30 minutes into the flight that his family has been kidnapped. The only way the pilot’s family will survive is if he crashes the plane. Thus begins this thriller, which is absolutely enthralling. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Steven Weber, who was excellent, while I did everything around my house for two days!

I also learned that Falling was rejected 41 times before being published. This speaks to the tenacity of the author. T. J. Newman knew no one in the industry, but believed in her book. What a testimony to believing in yourself and your work! In fact, Universal Pictures has optioned the rights to Falling for $1.5 million.

I highly recommend Falling by T. J. Newman.
