Book Review—Golden Girl by Elin Hilderbrand

Oh my! How I love reading an Elin Hilderbrand novel every summer! This summer’s novel is Golden Girl. The plot is a little bit of a departure from Elin’s past books, but it worked for me.

Viv Howe, a bestselling author, is killed while riding her bicycle on a beautiful Nantucket morning by a hit-and-run driver. Viv goes to Heaven and is shown how she can help her children with their grief from afar. In addition, she has many loose ends in her life to attend to including her ex-husband JP, her upcoming novel launch, and the investigation into her death.

The novel seems somewhat autobiographical in that Viv’s novel is titled Golden Girl. The novel takes us to many fun restaurants and bars on Nantucket, some fictional. Ms. Hilderbrand always has beautiful descriptions of the area and the food, and Nantucket is on my bucket list after reading so many of her books.

This is not an overly sad book. It does have its moments, but it is mostly about love of family. If you have ever lost a family member before their time (Elin Hilderbrand lost her father in an airplane crash when she was 16), this book will give you comfort. Elin dedicated Golden Girl to her three children, which was a labor of love.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Note: I purchased the Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition of Golden Girl. It contains mini-reviews of Elin’s Top Ten Books of her first 50 years and her Top Ten Books since she turned 50! Great lists! Now I have more reading to do!
