August 2021 Reading!

I love summer reading! I always look forward to this time of year to read! Technically, fall doesn’t begin until September 22nd, so I plan on doing more summer reading this month.

Lauren Weisberger is the author of The Devil Wears Prada and also her newest book, Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty. This is a humorous/domestic fiction novel concerning Peyton Marcus, a news anchor, getting mixed up in a college admissions scandal.

I read several thrillers this month and they are all exceptional. The Damage by Caitlin Wahrer is a “can’t stop reading” thriller with a twist. When the Stars Go Dark by Paula McClain is a departure from her usual historical fiction novels. The present and the past collide in this thriller featuring Anna Hart, a San Francisco detective. The Plot by Jean Hanford Korelitz is an amazing thriller concerning a fledgling author and “the plot” of a novel.

I read a few mysteries. The Siren by Katherine St. John concerns actress Stella Rivers and her ex-husband Cole Power. Cole asks Stella, who has been unstable and reclusive, to star in his newest movie. This novel is full of deception. The Ghosts of Harvard is the debut novel by Francesca Serritella. It concerns Harvard student, Cadence Archer, and the mystery surrounding her brother’s death. This is a well-researched book with many Harvard references.

Atomic Habits by James Clear is an outstanding book about how to form better habits and therefore have a more productive life. I have marked so many helpful passages in this book!

The Last Summer at the Golden Hotel by Elyssa Friedland is a domestic fiction novel with lots of humor. The novel revolves around two families who own the Golden Hotel, their children and grandchildren. The Golden Hotel reminds me of the hotel in the movie Dirty Dancing. This was a fun book to read.

The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams is just a perfect book. If you enjoy words, language, and how we communicate, you will love this historical fiction book. It is set in Oxford, England, of course.

Look for the full reviews of my August reading over the next few weeks.

Currently, I am reading Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb and listening to Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto.

Happy Reading!
