Book Review—Ghosts of Harvard by Francesca Serritella

Ghosts of Harvard is Francesca Serritella’s debut novel, and what a novel it is. This is a book about a family’s grief from losing their son/brother to suicide. Cady, the main character, lost her brother, Eric, while he was a student at Harvard. Much to her mother’s chagrin, Cady begins college at Harvard the following year. She is obsessed to find out what happened to her brother and his decline into mental illness. Cady begins to hear voices and worries about her own state of mind. Her relationships with her roommates deteriorate and her grades suffer.

Ms. Serritella has written a well-researched book that includes facts about Harvard, her alma mater. The book is part psychological thriller, part ghost story, part historical fiction, and a family drama. If that sounds like a lot, it is, but the author ties everything up beautifully at the end. This is an impressive debut novel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Fun Fact: Francesca Serritella is the daughter of author, Lisa Scottoline.
