Book Review—Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone was published in April of 2019. I’ve had the book at home for quite a while. I think the Frank Zappa quote, “So many books, so little time,” rings true for me. I kept hearing wonderful things about Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, so I finally read this book. I’m so glad that I did not set it aside any longer.

First of all, you wouldn’t think that a book about a therapist and her own therapist would be funny. However, Lori Gottlieb is a great writer, and parts of this book are just hilarious. Lori is a therapist who needs a therapist after a huge life change. The book delves into her therapy as well as how she is helping her own patients at the same time. I think my favorite storyline besides Lori and her own therapist, Wendell, are her therapy sessions with a Hollywood producer, John. I found myself really looking forward to the parts of the book that were about John.  So now the question becomes, “Who should read this book?” The answer is, “Everyone.” There isn’t a person out there who won’t see themselves in some aspect of this book. It is helpful, funny (as I previously stated), as well as heartfelt. Thank goodness there are therapists in the world like Lori and Wendell.
