Book Review—Still Life by Louise Penny

Still Life is the first Louise Penny book that I have read, and I loved it! There are 17 books in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. Also, Louise Penny wrote, along with Hillary Rodman Clinton, State of Terror, which was published in October of this year.

Still Life was published in 2005 and was Louise Penny’s debut novel. It won numerous awards. The book is set in the small village of Three Pines outside of Quebec. When a well-loved artist in the community, Jane Neal, is found dead in the woods, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is called in to determine if her death was an accident or a murder. The book is full of red herrings, twists and turns. The novel is reminiscent of the Murder, She Wrote television show. Three Pines, like Cabot Cove, is an unlikely place for a murder to happen, because of the coziness of the village.

I will be reading more of Louise Penny’s work. In fact, I am currently listening to the audiobook of A Fatal Grace, the second in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series.
