Book Review—The Maid by Nita Prose

“One thing I’ve learned in my business is that you can hide dirt for a while, but at some point, it all comes to the surface.”

The Maid is a phenomenal murder mystery written by debut author, Nita Prose. The best thing about the book, in my opinion, is the main character, Molly Gray. Molly is a maid at a luxury hotel, The Regency Grand, and takes her job seriously. Raised by her Gran, she is awkward in social situations and often misreads social cues. In her own way, Molly is charming, a beloved employee at the hotel, and can even remember word-for-word the last staff training on new cleaning procedures. All of this comes tumbling down when Molly finds a dead body of a guest at the hotel.

The Maid is a murder mystery that is unique because of Molly’s involvement. The other hotel employees, guests, as well as Gran, are well-developed characters and add much to the suspense in the novel. It is a true “whodunnit” murder mystery.

The Maid was a Book of the Month choice, the GMA January pick, and is currently #1 on the New York Times Best Sellers List. The movie rights to The Maid have been bought by Universal, and Florence Pugh is set to play the staring role of Molly Gray.

I highly recommend The Maid by Nita Prose.
