The Replacement Wife is Darby Kane’s second novel. I listened to the audiobook, which was released by HarperAudio on December 28, 2021. The Replacement Wife is a suspenseful mystery/domestic thriller.
Main character, Elisa Wright has survived a recent trauma. Married to Harris, a veterinarian, they have one son. Harris’s brother, Josh, has been unlucky in love. His wife died from an accident, and now his fiancé, Abby, is missing. Elisa and Abby were best friends, and Elisa is distraught over her missing friend. When Josh introduces Elisa and Harris to Rachel, his new girlfriend, Elisa is even more upset.
Because of Elias’s past trauma, she is an unreliable narrator. Also, from time to time, the author interjects a short chapter from an unknown character. All of this adds to the suspense of the novel.
