Book Review—The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny

The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny is the fifth book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. I listened to the audiobook, which I obtained from Orange County Library Services via the Libby app.

The Brutal Telling is one of my favorites so far in the series. It won many awards in 2009/2010. The setting of this book is again in Three Pines, Quebec, Canada. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is closing in on a killer after a stranger is found dead in the town’s bistro.

Louis Penny’s novels are filled with well-developed characters that appear in all of her books. They become your “friends.” The characters are funny, quirky, and endearing. One word of warning…you might get hungry when your read her books. Gamache enjoys going out for delicious meals.

If you enjoy mysteries, I highly recommend this series. I started reading Louise Penny novels last November, and I am now reading Bury Your Dead, the sixth book in the series.
