Book Review—Marrying the Ketchups by Jennifer Close

I loved Marrying the Ketchups by Jennifer Close. It was one of my Book of the Month choices in May of this year. The book is set in Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. It could be one of the reasons I loved the book so much; it reminded me of the Chicago area where I grew up which was very close to Oak Park (LaGrange and Brookfield).

This story is about three generations of the Sullivan family. The family runs JP Sullivan’s, a restaurant known for their outstanding burgers, beer, and watching Cubs’ games. The author placed a Sullivan Family Tree at the beginning of the book, which is helpful for the reader. My favorite characters are Gretchen, who has moved back home to work at the restaurant after being a singer for years; Jane, Gretchen’s older sister, who also works at the restaurant, and is rethinking her life, and Teddy, their cousin, who manages JP Sullivan’s, and is going through heartbreak. All of this mixed together makes for a funny and heartwarming novel.

And, where does the title come from? You have to read the book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
