Book Review—That Summer by Jennifer Weiner

That Summer by Jennifer Weiner was published last summer. I didn’t read it then, so it was one of the first books I wanted to read this summer! I actually listened to the audiobook. Sutton Foster from Younger was the narrator. I loved everything about her narration!

That Summer is not your typical beach read, even though much of the setting is in beautiful Cape Cod. It tackles some difficult topics. The novel focuses on two women, Diana and Daisy who meet because of a misdirected email. The two women become friends, even though their lifestyles differ. Daisy has a gorgeous home with a husband and daughter, both of whom can be distant. She volunteers and gives cooking lessons. Diana is single, works in a corporate setting, and lives a more lavish life.

There comes a point in the book where events are revealed. At that juncture, it is very difficult to put the book down, or in my case, stop listening. That Summer has many twists and turns that lead up to a climatic ending. This book is about friendship and the growth that occurs during life’s journeys.
