Book Review—Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

Remarkably Bright Creatures is author Shelby Van Pelt’s  debut novel. It made its way to the New York Times Best Sellers List as well as being chosen as a Read with Jenna selection in May. Who would have thought that an octopus named Marcellus would be taking the reading world by storm this summer?

This novel concerns itself with Tova, a recent widow, who  is the night janitor at the Sowell Bay Aquarium. It is there that she meets and befriends Marcellus, the curmudgeonly octopus. Before you say you can’t read a novel about a talking octopus, think again. This literary fiction novel is part mystery, but is mostly about the characters in the story and how they move forward from loss and loneliness. It is a novel that will bring you joy as you make your way through each chapter.

Remarkably Bright Creatures is one of my favorite books so far in 2022. If you are looking for a novel that will lift your spirits, this is the one to read!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
