Book Review—The Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny

The Beautiful Mystery is the 8th novel in the Inspector Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny. This book is set at a Quebec monastery where the monks are known for singing Gregorian chants. When there is a murder at the monastery, Gamache and his second-in-command, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, are called to investigate. This is the first Louise Penny book that is not set in Three Pines. Of course, we still hear of  Reine-Marie and Annie, but not the usual characters in Three Pines. I enjoyed the departure from Three Pines in this novel, but I hope to go back to Three Pines soon. I loved the Gregorian chants part of this novel and even started listening to some on Spotify. They are so beautiful.

If you haven’t started reading this series from Louise Penny, I highly recommend you do so. Begin with Still Life and go from there. Her 18th installment will be published in September.
