Darby Kane, author of Pretty Little Wife (my review linked) and The Replacement Wife (my review linked) is at it again with another thriller, The Last Invitation. Published in December of 2022, The Last Invitation focuses on two women who were former friends in college. Jessa Hall is a lawyer who has recently received an invitation for membership in the Sophie Foundation. On the surface the Sophie Foundation sounds like a normal charity, but it has a much more sinister agenda. Gabby Hall has just lost her husband in a mysterious way. Because of this, Jessa’s and Gabby’s paths cross once again. The novel is told from the perspectives of Gabby, Jessa and the Sophie Foundation in alternating chapters. The chapters are short, which keeps the book fast-paced. There are many secrets in this novel, and I did not predict the ending twist.
