Book Review—Taste by Stanley Tucci

This book is amazing! I never knew much about Stanley Tucci as a person; I only knew him through his movies. However, after watching many of his cooking videos on Instagram and TikTok and reading this book, he is definitely a foodie, great author and actor.

Stanley Tucci grew up in Westchester County, New York in the mid-1960’s. Reading about his childhood brought back memories of my own in the Chicago suburbs. They were idyllic times when you could play outside all day without a care in the world.  His family is Italian; his mother cooked extraordinary meals and that is where his love of food was born.

This book is all about Stanley Tucci’s love of food and how it encompasses every part of his life. It is full of recipes for cocktails, pastas, lamb chops, his wife’s roast potatoes and much, much more.

I made Pizzoccheri which is found on pages 136-137 in Taste. The recipe is also featured in his television show, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy. (By the way, the show is fantastic and can be streamed on many channels.) Pizzocceri is a noodle made of a 50/50 buckwheat and wheat flour. I bought the noodles on Amazon from the Moro company. The noodle is used in a casserole/type dish called Pappardelle alla Valtellina. It is a hearty dish and usually made in the autumn and winter months. This dish is a delicious combination of cabbage, potatoes, pasta, butter and cheese. I highly recommend Taste and I highly recommend you make this pasta!
