What Are You Reading?

November was a great month for me to catch up on reading some of the books that were in my "Want to Read" shelf on Goodreads.  My online book club, #spiveysclub, took a month off from selections to reorganize.  At first I was bummed, but then I dove into books that were waiting for me to read!  Audible had a 2 for 1 credit sale in August and I was able to buy Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska with them, as well as Leaving Time and What Alice Forgot.  I actually received American Pharoah free with an Audible promotion.  (P.S.  They spelled American Pharoah's name incorrect on his birth certificate, so that is why it is misspelled on the book and in the blog!)  I'm always looking for good deals since I am reading so much!  So this is what I read in November:

November 2018 Books I Read

I have to be honest--I am listening to most of my books!  I am in the car a lot, in fact I did not realize how much until I started listening to books.  Plus, while I cook or clean, I listen to books, too!  It just makes me feel productive!

The two books by Bob Goff, Love Does and Everybody Always are very inspirational.  They are  collections of stories of events in Bob's life.  He makes you look at life differently and encourages  you to go out and "do", instead of just talking about "doing".

I read American Pharoah: The Untold Story of the Triple Crown Winner's Legendary Rise by Joe Drape because I have always been fascinated with The Triple Crown.  When I grew up, we always watched all three races as a family.  I was watching when Secretariat won The Triple Crown.  I knew American Pharoah must have had an interesting backstory, and he certainly did!

John Green is becoming one of my favorite authors.  Even though his focus is young adult literature, I feel it is for everyone.  He can really delve into the minds of high school students.  The lessons they learn are lessons for us all. I read two of his books this month:  Paper Towns and his newest, Turtles All the Way Down.

If you like elephants, you will probably enjoy Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult.  This book was published in 2014.  There is a huge twist in the book that I did not seeing coming!

I really loved What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty.  Can you imagine losing a decade of your life between the ages of 29 and 39?  Well that is what happened to the main character, Alice Love.  This book makes you think about how you evolve as a person through the decades in your life.  Do you like the person you have become, or was the younger you more on track?

Last, but not least, I finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling.  It is the second in the series, and it totally delivers.  I watched the movie after I read the book.  So much fun!  I am on a waiting list for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

So, there you have my November books.  I am currently listening to Educated by Tara Westover.  It is one of the December selections for the month in #spiveysclub.  I'm not quite halfway through it, but I have to say it is a compelling memoir.  I'm almost finished with Us Against You by Fredrik Backman.  It is the sequel to Beartown, one of my favorite books of the year.  Then I am beginning my holiday reading!  I will share what is on my list soon!

So, what are you reading?
