A Great Guacamole and New Tortilla Chips!

There are so many variations on guacamole, but this is the recipe I have used for years.  I like it, but you can also substitute lemon if you are not a "lime" person, etc.  It will be great for the upcoming Super Bowl or just any gathering of family and friends.

Ingredients:

  • 3 avocados--peeled, pitted, and mashed
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (be sure your guests like cilantro)
  • 2 roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
You could also add 2 tablespoons of finely chopped unseeded jalapeno pepper (from 1 small jalapeno) and/or a pinch of ground cayenne pepper.

Ready for the game!

Now for the new chips!  I found four types of new chips that are gluten free.  I love to find new products!

The first product is a Beanitos variety.  They have been around awhile, but this variety uses white beans.  It is certified gluten free and vegan.  It also has 4g of protein per serving and is a good source of fiber.  A serving only contains 1g of sugar, too.  These chips are light and flavorful!

The next three chips are from the company Siete.  The chips were developed by the Garza family for their daughter with autoimmune conditions. The grain free lime tortilla chips are also gluten free as well as paleo and vegan friendly.  The chips are made with avocado oil and are also dairy free and soy free.  They use cassava flour and coconut flour as the base.  The chips do contain citric acid, which is the one ingredient that is so hard not to find in processed foods.  You can really taste the lime flavor in these chips!

The next chip is also by Siete, and it is their nacho grain free tortilla chip variety.  The nacho chips are also certified gluten free, as well as paleo and vegan friendly.  They are also made with avocado oil and are dairy and soy free.  This chip uses a cassava flour base, which is a root vegetable and is a staple crop in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.  The chips also contain coconut flour, nutritional yeast to give it the cheesy flavor, ground chia seeds, sea salt, jalapeno powder, onion powder, garlic powder, serrano powder, and citric acid.  These chips are very flavorful!  Usually the nacho varieties contain some type of dairy, but not this chip!  Also, nutritional yeast is fine for a yeast free diet.

The last chip I'm featuring today is the Siete sea salt variety.  Again they are certified gluten free, and are paleo and vegan friendly, just like the other Siete varieties.  They are dairy and soy free and also use cassava and coconut flour as their base.  They contain sea salt and ground chia seeds, too.  This was my favorite chip of all of the chips I'm featuring today.  It was light and the taste was just right for me.  It let the flavor of the guacamole stand out.  It was the chip that I featured in the photo with the guacamole.

I hope you enjoy the guacamole recipe, and will try some new varieties of chips!!
